The Fading Recognition of American Virtues
We've Seemed to Have Lost Our Way....
~written from the common sense perspective of The Winds of the Soul~

|No matter how satirically funny and sadly apropos this may appear, there is a deeper lesson here, a truism that strikes at the heart of a problem we have today, namely, we should not expect anything more than our prejudices allow.... Prejudice only blinds us to the truth, keeps us falsely safe, and securely stupid...||
To begin this month's newsletter, I hope you find the following as humorous as I did: In testing the vigilance of law enforcement agencies across the U.S., the President of the United States asked the CIA, the FBI, as well as the Los Angels Police Department (LAPD) to participate in some friendly competitive war games. Accordingly, a designated marked rabbit was set free in a forest and all three organizations were instructed to go in, find and retrieve it. The CIA immediately dispatched a network of undercover agents who promptly setout to interview all mineral and plant species about the subject, and after weeks of secret recognizance glibly determined that there was no such thing as a "rabbit." In the interim, the LAPD spent some time on the ground in the forest and finally emerged with a badly beaten-up bear who was screaming, "Okay, okay..., I'm a rabbit, I'm a rabbit..!!" Then finally, the FBI surrounded the forest only to proceed to burn it and everything within it down, the rabbit included, with the explanatory but smug caveat that the "rabbit had it coming to him...."
No matter how satirically funny and sadly apropos this may appear, there is a deeper lesson here, a truism that strikes at the heart of a problem we have today, namely, we should not expect anything more than our ingrained prejudices allow.... Prejudice only blinds us to the truth, keeps us falsely safe, and securely stupid...

|Moreover, our school curriculums have been so whitewashed from any intellectual and spiritual substance, lacking the propriety of moral/ethic teaching in the classroom, that today's students have no idea as to how the basic virtues have historically been the very foundations of all the arts and sciences. Despite our current technology and all the information that is available, our kids are the recipients of the worst, the least valued, the least appropriately balanced education in the history of this country.||
It's a downright shame that we aren't better educated in this country as to what constitutes prejudice and what doesn't. Especially at the time of the Holiday Season, where anything religious, and especially Christian, has long since been banished by the dulling drum beat of Political Correctness, we find ourselves in a world ever more in need of the sublime "virtues," teachings, and standards of the Ten Commandments and the Gospel of Christ to refute the misleading diatribe of various relativisms, egocentrisms, and of course the impending threat of Radical Islamic Fundamentalism.
Not that I don't find the occasional Christian too shrill, dogmatic, and rigid for my liking (so aren't a few atheists that I know), but I don't feel it's wise to gag anyone or pass any law that undermines our freedom of speech. Let everyone who wishes speak their mind as long as they're open to sincere debate and inquiry thereafter.
But honest inquiry and examination of the virtues that have made this country great are proving harder to find in this country, as we feel the push of Political Correctness and its advocates bleach away the words of our Founding Fathers, leaving our precious founding documents as Locke's "Tableau Rosa" (blank sheet), upon which they attempt to rewrite history.
Adding to the reinforcement of our sedated state, the media has long since attempted to make us feel embarrassed about our embracing the validity of our historical "virtues," leaning away from anything remotely associated with moral values and the like, becoming biased and anything but "fair and balanced," except for a few recent additions who are immediately labeled as not pulling along the liberal agenda like everyone else.
Moreover, our school curriculums have been so whitewashed from any intellectual and spiritual substance, lacking the propriety of moral/ethic teaching in the classroom, that today's students have no idea as to how the basic virtues have historically been the very foundations of all the arts and sciences. Despite our current technology and all the information that is available, our kids are the recipients of the worst, the least valued, the least appropriately balanced education in the history of this country. And we've never spent as much on this public-dulling process than we are now. Never before have we invested so much in an outdated pig-in-a-poke! And this leads us to an amazing and dangerous state of affairs....
Many, if not most, of our young people who lack the instruction of sound virtues have consequently become so self-absorbed and indifferent to others that they cannot think "outside the box" for themselves. They live in realms of false securities wherein their propped-up and self-assured prejudices about the world remain incubated and unchallenged. Smugly self-centered, proudly dull of mind and inquire-less, they openly entertain impact-free, don't-care-attitudes about everything, except possibly for their personal fashion and music(?). Many remain culturally adverse to a work-ethic, find it easier to cheat, steal, and be complicit than to be honest, are repulsed by anything that may take some sweat and discipline, and feel it's their right to remain so. (Perhaps were breeding a generation of Lawyers?!?)
|Yet, we seem blind to the meaning or the consequences that face our nation today because of it, and the nation our children will inherit tomorrow. Indeed, we have yet to address this side of the bigger picture. Namely, the ongoing indoctrination of Islamic youth to Radical Fundamentalism verses the utter lack of instruction of our own youth as to the virtues that have made this Judeo-Christian country great, free and civil. When one considers that this war of terrorism may last for generations, it would seem to me that emphasis should be placed on the appropriate instruction of tomorrows defenders....||
What are we grooming them for?---to be ongoing fans at rock concerts? Is it any wonder that today our kids rarely grow up, but are retaining levels of immaturity into adulthood, where their parents, coming from similarly dulling educational circumstances and curriculums, are just the same...? We are raising people who don't know how to think for themselves, setting them up to be ruled by despots and dictators. And they'll probably not complain as long as their comfort levels remain undisturbed.
Now contrast this with what we see in the Islamic nations where children are being daily indoctrinated with a hatred of anything coming from the West, despising all Jews and Christians, and an intolerance to anything other than what their Mullahs are teaching them. They're being raised for Jihad, an ongoing unholy war against everything that is different from what they believe. Their education is steeped in the psychopathology and prejudice of Radical Islamic Fundamentalism, derived from severely disturbed if not psychotic notions of God, man, and society. They're openly taught of extremist's prejudices that would make your hair stand on end; where woman have no rights and are only treated slightly better than the family goat, where murder and torture is generally justifiable---especially against non-believers--- and avarice and greed are encouraged against one another as well... Theirs is a world awash with open instruction that justifies any form of intolerance against those who would question their faith, resulting in the direction to kill anybody who doesn't agree with them and leave them to rot on the roadside thereafter. You won't find the civilizing virtues and gentling teachings of the Gospel or the standards of the Ten Commandments even talked about here. These truths are against their laws---and often punishable by death. Pure hatred and contention-isms are the constant topics of instruction for their young minds who sit and imitate the obsessive and self-absorbed ravings of their instructors.
To be sure, Radical Islamic Fundamentalists are raising a generation of terrorists. That fact is that millions more are now being readied in the wings. This is even more frightening and widespread, and therefore much more alarming, than Hitler's Youth Camps....
Yet, we seem blind to the meaning of all of this, in denial of its significance, and the consequences that face our nation today because of it, and the nation our children will inherit tomorrow. Indeed, we have yet to address this side of the bigger picture. Namely, the ongoing indoctrination of Islamic youth to Radical Fundamentalism verses the utter lack of instruction of our own youth as to the virtues that have made this Judeo-Christian country great, free and civil. Herein is a great disparity.... When one considers that this war of terrorism may last for generations, it would seem to me that emphasis should be placed on the appropriate instruction of tomorrows defenders....
|These are the choices now manifesting themselves before us... ready or not... Yet, we blindly raise a generation of people who seek to maintain a prejudice for ease and stupidity, while the terrorists' kids are being filled with a prejudice that poisons every standard of fairness and honesty our nation has been founded upon. We should be alarmed for negligently raising a generation that can't think for themselves and no longer can tell the difference between good and evil.||
But alas, we remain oblivious to the real dangers before us, and refuse to even see their impending importance! All while the vast international network of Mullahs have become the incubating chambers of adult terrorists for the near future. Is there any wonder that there are over 150 million Radical Islamic Fundamentalists in the world today because of them, raising each successive generation with the same twisted hate and needs to destroy America and the West?
Can't we see the disturbing pattern here? On the one hand our kids are becoming more empty-headed and vacuum-like, oblivious as to the moral strengths and Judeo-Christian roots of this country, where anything goes and is myopically justifiable when seeking self-satisfaction, and each generation is more selfish than its predecessor..., where our kids don't know how to think because they've not been taught how to, and instead, learn to only selfishly and prejudicially care for themselves.
On the other hand, the children's minds of Islamic Fundamentalists are not so empty, but just as prejudiced, being filled with an unholy hatred which will be the basis of continuing and future wars against everybody and everything that is non-Islamic. Although these kids don't know how to think either, they are thoroughly programmed to obediently regurgitate the slop of their parents, just like the Hitler Youths were....
Do we not see where this is going? How can something empty-headed and weak defend against another thing that is filled with strongly conditioned extremist Islamic propaganda? In physics, we learn that nature abhors a vacuum, and anything around it will rush in and re-inhabit the empty space left vacant. Similarly, in psychology, we know that "empty heads" are more easily targeted than ones filled with an appreciation of the priorities of real virtues and honorable values. Bullets can't stop terrorist from spreading their destructive ideology. Only the appropriate teaching of our own youth and the systematic deprogramming of Islamic youth can put an end to our overly self-involved children in this country and the psychotic philosophies being pumped into the brainwashed youth of our enemies. Only then will we have won the war....
These are the choices now manifesting themselves before us... ready or not.... Yet, we unwittingly, if not blithefully, raise a generation of people who seek to maintain a prejudice for ease and stupidity, while the terrorists' kids are being filled with a prejudice that poisons every standard of fairness and honesty our nation has been founded upon.
We should be alarmed for negligently raising a generation that can't think for themselves and no longer can tell the difference between good and evil. We should be alarmed at the avoidance, if not the dismissal, of these issues amongst our nation's political and educational leaders. But we're not! Our barn door remains open, and everything that we have valued and fought for in this country could soon to be up for grabs... some say it's been up for grabs for years....
|When Political Correctness can trump the powers of Judeo-Christian virtues and morality, we're in more trouble than we know. Without any real understanding of the value of our freedoms, we will lose them, if not simply give them away. When we no longer teach anything but a superficial awareness and activity of the power of ideas, the press, and free speech, and forget the source of those freedoms, we shall soon see those very freedoms diluted beyond recognition. I||
Again, one would think that the best defense is a strong offence. And I'm not talking only about military strength. That's needed, of course, but if we really want to win this war, the right kind of education is something just as, if not, more important. And only the strongest will win. Until we revise our priorities and put back the meat in our educational system (i.e., the virtues of civil life) we have no real answer to the terrorists' diatribe---remaining morally crippled and tongue-tied by Political Correctness, our children will not be prepared for what awaits them.
And while we're at it, let's seek to raise the I.A. (Intelligence Awareness) of our own people (youth and elderly alike) in every way that we can, so that we know how to think and reason without self-involved prejudices. When a people have the freedoms we do, and yet do nothing so fundamentally correct as to educate the rising generation of their respective responsibilities, and witness for themselves the right of moral design and ethical standards, then we become a people that has forgotten to exercise those dignifying rights, and will soon lose our respective dignities to a generation that don't know their fathers.... We would not be far from embracing a Fundamental Islamic direction at that point..., not far from embracing some remnant of Hitlerian direction either. And that's a dangerous precedent that history has attested to time and again.
When Political Correctness can trump the powers of Judeo-Christian virtues and morality, we're in more trouble than we know. Without any real understanding of the value of our freedoms, we will lose them, if not simply give them away. When we no longer teach anything but a superficial awareness and activity of the power of ideas, the press, and free speech, and forget the source from which those freedoms spring, we shall soon see those very freedoms diluted beyond recognition. Indeed, because of the dulling of our mentation thus far, our minds have already become too weak to understand the true nature of the enemy, having already succumbed to contentiously turn upon each other instead while the real thief goes about his destructive business... Most simply, without consistent instruction of those civilizing tenants and virtues laid down within the Holy Bible to our aging youth, we may prove defenseless against the extended powers of the enemy, whether its from within or from without our country.
That being said, this leads me to believe that our most securing strategy of safety and our best ongoing national defense is to publically advance and declare the virtues that have previously served us so well, namely, the Judeo-Christian moral underpinning of our public educational system----for believers of any and all creeds, atheists and agnostics alike, without exception. Mind you, no one here is talking about trying to convert one another into some religious faith, domination, or creed. Only let the virtues that have served us so well in the past continue to serve us without dilution into the future. We should let the world know that this is a nation founded upon and freely chooses to maintain those virtues adopted from the record of the Bible itself---- virtues that just so happen to be the very principles upon which Judeo-Christian faiths are founded, but nonetheless civilizing virtues whose application extend far beyond the religiously sequestered, or of any particular denomination or faith.
|So recognized was this fact (the endearing and civilizing powers contained within the Bible) by our Founding Fathers, and so impressed were they by the truths contained therein, that nothing more than the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States were written upon this very foundation. To deny these facts is to deny the core-truths which we as a people maintain are "self-evident." To usurp their teachings from the classroom is suicidal, removing the foundation of blessings upon which this nation was built, and will soon cause her demise, leaving our youth defenseless and easy prey for our enemies.||
Therefore, no apologies are offered to those who claim offense because of the book from which these virtues stem. Nor to those who maintain that Political Correctness is a better standard; such a philosophy of contrariness and relativisms cannot mold young minds into free-thinking, healthy, and strong individuals.
Whether one believes in God or not, no other system of belief, religion, or philosophy teaches more tolerance to others, promises more loving fairness, guarantees more justice and freedom, while protecting individual rights, than that which is discovered in the Bible itself. This, therefore, need not be discounted to a religious and/or denominational argument as the Politically Correct would have us distractingly believe. That's not the argument. Apart from one's Godly views and whatever one may believe in, it is clear, and indeed now self-evident, that there has never been devised a more equitable, more tolerant, non-prejudicial system of civil philosophy than that those system of virtues, freedoms, and standards derived from the Bible, and we have ample history in this world to prove it. Indeed, nothing else will prove powerful enough to defeat the prejudicial strategies of the Radical Islamic Fundamentalists or the mind-numbing stubbornness of our own youth.
So recognized was this fact (the endearing and civilizing powers contained within the Bible) by our Founding Fathers, and so impressed were they by the truths contained therein, that nothing more than the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States were written upon this very foundation. To deny these facts is to deny the core-truths which we as a people maintain are "self-evident." To usurp their teachings from the classroom is suicidal, removing the foundation of blessings upon which this nation was built, and will soon cause its demise, leaving our youth and ourselves defenseless and easy prey for our enemies.
Some two thousand years ago a child was born in a manager. Amongst other things that I believe He came to do and did, nothing in this world has ever proved itself more important in advancing the cause of civilization, freedom, peace, and prosperity to all of mankind, then what this Man named Jesus came to teach us.
Regarding the instructions He offered us, never have we found anything more civilizing, more gracious, more uplifting, more peace-promoting, more sensible, tolerant, and forgiving..., capable of addressing every condition of mankind, being morally sound, intellectually astute, and psychologically sound.... Never has there been a more competent philosophy advanced to mankind than that which was and is still embraced by Him, those sacred and virtuous teachings that we have come to know from the Bible. Thankfully, our Founding fathers thought similarly.

We as a nation should not be embarrassed as to our "real" national authorship but take umbrage as to its genesis and ongoing direction. We can no longer afford to allow the powers of our freedoms to be separated from the source of the Truth that give them life. A tree separated from its roots cannot live. We should never be embarrassed into being silent about the sacred truths that have made this nation great, or from where those truths have been derived. Still, if others want to believe in something or someone else, that's okay here---but only so long as while under the auspices, tolerances, and guarantees of His guiding direction set forth within our governing civil laws which protects those very rights we all enjoy. And only so long that those shared freedoms are not interpreted to mean that anyone has the right to put an axe to the sublime tree of virtues that serves and protects us all so well...
Therefore, let us not hedge or think to take excuse, nor move to change the very foundation which has blessed us so far: His teachings and influence are powerfully alive with our laws, our government, and our culture, whether some acknowledge Him or not; we as a nation have proven them to be more valuable than gold and silver, and certainly more lasting and sensible.
So this Christmas Holiday season, let us give sincere thanks to the Lord our God, the King of the Universe, for the sacrifice made that enables all things that are good..., and for one of the greatest gifts yet to be established within this world, "one nation, [still] under [the] God [of our Fathers]!" And let us not hesitate to spread this word to our youth, for it is their only hope, their only real inheritance, both temporally and spiritually, left to them before we depart....
