Ring Out the Old, Ring in the Christ to be!
Having Lost Our Way, Let's Reclaim While We Can....
~written from the common sense perspective of The Winds of the Soul~
by Dr. Gregory C.D. Young, Ph.D.(Oxon.)
|We seem to have an aversion to personal introspection and cleansing, finding it either too daunting or simply not interesting enough. Or, perhaps we just don't want to find out some things about ourselves that would prove possibly embarrassing or shameful.||
At the start of the New Year, many take the time to engage in some personal accounting and goal-setting. This is good, but unfortunately, this may be the only time of the year that this is done..., and when it is at least thought about, it's generally superficial.
We seem to have an aversion to personal introspection and cleansing, finding it either too daunting or simply not interesting enough. Or, perhaps we just don't want to find out some things about ourselves that would prove possibly embarrassing or shameful. Unfortunately, when asked, most people don't understand what they're supposed to do in the process, and end up entertaining some superficiality about themselves that is anything but accurate, often being rudely painful and upsetting. No wonder so few do it and only attempt it once a year.... But the journeys of personal introspection can be much more worthwhile and involve deeper depths than most have considered.
Internal cleansing of every kind is something that should be done regularly. For instance, not only is it advantageous to regularly make a clean sweep of our psychologies and spiritualities, but our physical bodies as well....

|We will especially benefit from these comparisons when we compare the nature of parasitic actions and our possible dependencies with other things. So, with that in mind, let's learn a little about why we should at least cleanse our body with the hope that spiritual cleansing can more easily be understood.||
In fact, there is a good parallel between our understanding of how and why its so necessary to cleanse the body (especially of parasites), and how we can successfully cleanse our minds and spirits that will prove useful for us. We will especially benefit from these comparisons when we compare the nature of parasitic actions and our possible dependencies with other things. So, with that in mind, let's learn a little about why we should at least cleanse our body with the hope that spiritual cleansing can more easily be understood.
Now, most of the world already subjects themselves to some form of parasitic cleansing at least once a year so as to keep their bodies in working order, in good health, and boost the overall effectiveness of the immune system. Strangely enough, few in the U.S. and Europe hardly think that this needs to be done, perhaps because of wrongly and prejudicially believing that parasites don't inhabit the bodies of those living in First World Countries. But they do, and probably more so than those in Third World Countries. So we should all be alarmed.
Briefly, Parasites are organisms that inhabit a host (e.g. our body), draining and depriving that host of continuous nutritional benefits while offering nothing beneficial in return. Modern theories of medicine include the possibility that may degenerative diseases may be exacerbated if not caused by parasites. There are over 2000 known varieties of parasites that can inhabit the human body, and perhaps far more yet to be identified and classified. They are not just a Third World problem!
Alarmingly, parasites have learned to coexist transparently within us, learning to live without detection while hiding from our immune systems defenses. Parasites infect the brain, the cardiovascular system, and all other body organs and systems. Some even evolve, becoming different organisms over time while inhabiting different parts of the body. And they can live for years throughout the entirety of our body, some living up to 30 years and measuring between 1-2 cm. to 30 feet in length. Tape worms, ring worms, blood flukes, etc. can all be found within our bodies at any time of our life, and we rarely know they're there. Now that's unsettling! But that's not all....
Most importantly, they're not harmless to us. Besides sapping us of all sorts of energy, robbing us of the caloric fuel we need to survive, the amino acids and proteins we need to rebuild, they shield super-funds of concentrated populations of bacteria and viruses within their own enforced cell walls, acting like ticking time bombs that can go off within us at later times. In fact, it's because they continuous culture and re-culture the bacteria and viruses within them without our immune system's awareness that they are so dangerous.
|Shielded by the parasites' stealth capabilities, bacteria and viruses that perhaps have infected us years ago, are allowed to evolve beyond our natural defenses and re-infect us without warning. And each time they are released from parasites, the viruses and bacteria will have become stronger and more resilient, more capable of bringing us down, and perhaps killing us. Are you beginning to see the parallels?||

And each time they are released from parasites, the viruses and bacteria will have become stronger and more resilient, more capable of bringing us down, and perhaps killing us. Are you beginning to see the parallels?
To make matters worse, we are poorly educated as to these realities. The medical community ignores most forms of prevention intervention and largely diminishes the problem at hand. In fact, there are only a dozen or so medications that are available for ridding ourselves of parasites, compared to the over 2000 species now known. Even though there is mounting evidence that parasites are involved with Cancer, Alzheimer's, and other major degenerative diseases, relatively little research is ongoing.
Parenthetically, thanks to a history of known effective third world strategies, there are some relatively simple things we can do to regularly purge our physical systems of parasites (and the unwanted bacteria and viruses they protect) including the use of clove, ginger, and black walnut powders, a number of Chinese herbs, fresh yogurt and other beneficial bacteria, baking soda with the addition of some homeopathics proven useful for pH adjustment, the drinking of quinine water (quinine was for years the only known deterrent against the parasite causing/carrying malaria--that's why the British made famous the cocktail Gin and Tonic--gin made the tonic palatable!), colon cleansings, and silver colloidals for mopping up. For specifics on the use of these home remedies of cleansing, many Health Professionals today will be able to steer you in the right direction if you're at all interested.
Now lets look more closely at the parallels. Just like parasites, unwelcomed habits and patterns of psychology and spirit, which if are not destructive will lead one to the making of mistakes of all sorts, can inhabit us and remain undetected for years, spewing out their destructive toxins and poisons, and their own variety of bacteria and deadly viruses, without us being any the wiser. Just like parasites, our "sins" can be beyond our immediate recognition and effectively operate within us without us being any the wiser. They too can operate transparently within us.
|Often legitimate looking psychological structures and spiritual beliefs are the means of their stealth invisibility, operating without our direct awareness. Without eradication, such can lead us to develop a flurry of problems including a myriad of self-absorbed strategies (irrational fears, toxic selfishness, insensitivities of all sorts, etc.) that blindly inhabit us and cause misdirection, resulting in the ruination of our lives, ending up with us doing what we don't want, and being with the wrong sorts of people.||
To be sure, we often harbor the compounding of prejudices, Frustration Complexes, irrational fears, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and other deadly habits, each being further protected and layered within each other like deadly bacteria and viruses that can be unleashed at any time. Often legitimate looking psychological structures and spiritual beliefs are the means of their stealth invisibility, operating without our direct awareness, covering up their nefarious affairs. Without eradication, such can lead us to develop a flurry of imbalances including, to name just a few of the problems they can cause, a myriad of self-absorbed strategies (irrational fears, toxic selfishness, insensitivities of all sorts, etc.) that blindly inhabit us and cause misdirection, resulting in the ruination of our lives, ending up with us doing what we don't want, and being with the wrong sorts of people.
And just like the blindness of the medical community to the real problems of parasites, so do our churches today ignore the real spiritual problems amongst us, over simplifying the realities before us, offering a plethora of pop-psychology quick-fixes, one-minute get-right-with-God-prayers, smugly misrepresenting the Gospel of Christ as some mean, paltry, misshapen thing---looking only to pacify the few who think themselves holy while most who really need help and want sincere direction are kept from their doors, no matter the sycophantic invitations to the contrary. Most of us are starving, being bled by the spiritual parasites both within and amongst us, although our latter-day scribes and Pharisees won't acknowledge it.
So let's ring out the old and welcome the new! Let's do this for ourselves! It's time to wake up and start thinking again. It's time for us to be more responsible with our lives. It's time to stand up and make our own decisions, and see that God would have us become Sons and Daughters to Him, not slaves and servants as most theologians teach today. Surely, in this vein, God would have us recognize the things about ourselves that need changing, and that can be changed, and how to change them without bringing our roof down around us in the process. He would have us learn that repentance is greater than innocence---an understanding that today's churches have turned completely upside down, seeing how difficult it is for "sinners" to be accepted within their social climes, and how the "sinner" must always bear the scarlet letter! Without this wisdom, there can be no real understanding, no real forgiveness...
|Indeed, any who want impede us in taking this journey are not really our friends, but stumbling blocks. Any who would turn us away from such honest inquiry and interest are not of our greater family, but wish our demise. Even the Lord has warned that any who would offend "the little ones within us" should be cutoff, even if they act in the important calling as our eyes (e.g., misdirected teachers and mentors), or operate as our right arm (such as, some friends and associates), or are to us as a leg upon which we look for help to stand (i.e., dependent relationships of all kinds).||
He would show us that His Forgiveness is more fulfilling and cleansing than we could ever imagine, yet we will not lose the memories or histories of our lives nor will we be penalized because of our repentance as some would have us believe. He would do so by showing us and teaching each of us that the inner world of our goodly feelings is far more valuable than any have understood, and that by becoming a child again, by becoming the children we used to be, our capacities for intelligence, for understanding, for prosperity, are only then truly opened unto us---unleashing the spiritual potentials of who He has created us to be. He would teach us of His Goodness, of its subsequent powers and glory, even the very foundation of His Throne, so as to rid us of any and all parasites that we may unwittingly allow to harbor within us. Truly, His is a message of "Life," and what we are to experience while we are here upon this planet. Should we not want to know these things more? Should we not want to be finally honest with ourselves, and reject the diatribes that so many have used to misled us from understanding His Message to date? Isn't this is what we should do for our New Year, however quietly we may proceed?
Indeed, let us rid ourselves of all parasites from our lives, even those within us and amongst us who would have us stop from gathering and embracing the children within us, who would have us refuse the sensitivities of the Spirit they hold for our unrealized perpetuity. Let us not be fooled.... Any who would embarrass us in these realities, or make us feel ashamed, "uncool," and socially unacceptable for wanting to become more sensitive to things Spiritual, are wolves in sheep's clothing; parasites of a kind that are often difficult to recognize and slow to admit their untoward influence.
Indeed, any who want impede us in taking this journey are not really our friends, but stumbling blocks. Any who would turn us away from such honest inquiry and interest are not of our greater family who would wish our welfare, but wish our demise. Even the Lord has warned that any who would offend "the little ones within us" should be cutoff and plucked out, even if they presumptuously act in the importance of our "eyes" (e.g., misdirected teachers and mentors), or become as our "right arm" (such as, some friends and associates), or are to us as a "foot" upon which we look for help to stand (i.e., dependent relationships of all kinds). All of these should be summarily cutoff if they prove to inhibit the growth of our Spiritual Higher Selves and our reliance upon His Voice within us. Let us resolve to begin, however slowly and carefully we decide, however cautiously we may step..., but let us begin!
|You would be amazed at how such a timely disruption in all these arenas regularly practiced can clear the cobwebs and put us into mind as to where we really are, clarifying the things we would thereafter need to discard about us. Such a process clears the "wires" and allows us to correctly reestablish our priorities. Turning down the cacophony of the world around us is needed, or at least understanding where the volume control is, will help us live each day with more direction and purpose.||
Fasting, prayer, and meditation is often a very good start in coming close to recognizing these unwanted parasitic tendencies within us as well as redefining the values of our relationships with others. (1) Fasting may mean departing from the regular schedule of fare for most of us, and can include the fasting of all varieties of life, such as not talking for a while and remaining silent, not being with certain friends who would "not yet understand," not eating or drinking for periods of time, not watching TV or being involved in any other recreational activity..., in fact, not doing anything that would interfere in our abilities to concentrate on the process of discovery and personal spiritual introspection. Fasting can effectively remove the powers of Stealth that our sins have been protected by, increasing our powers of awareness almost immediately..... (2) Prayer, of course, is necessary and should proceed with the request for personal revelation when fasting and when not. The key is to remain quiet long enough in prayer, listening for His response, allowing the time needed for God to point you in the right direction. Unfortunately, most of us pray like we're ordering fast food. We never allow the other party to respond coherently.... (3) Meditation is useful especially when we have gained a little to work with, as proffered to us by the promptings of His Spirit. We then begin to grow more sensitive to some of our problems and the directions He wishes for us to proceed. Focusing upon them (meditating) will allow us to see them more clearly, as well as developing some appreciation as to how deep the problems go and what can be done about them. (Please note, that despite the fact that I've just outlined this in one paragraph, this is not a quick-fix scenario. This trio of effort must be practiced regularly!)
You would be amazed at how such a timely disruption in all these arenas regularly practiced can clear the cobwebs and put us into mind as to where we really are, clarifying the things we would thereafter need to discard about us. Such a process clears the "wires" and allows us to correctly reestablish our priorities. Turning down the cacophony of the world around us is needed, or at least understanding where the volume control is, will help us live each day with more direction and purpose. Listening more to what is within us, than those outside of us is a habit that will take some getting used to. Habits will change for us while new patterns will be learned and become easier as time progresses. Our relationships will change, perhaps thin out a bit, but will become of better quality over time. And let us beware, some inside and outside of us may resist our changes. Parasites and other dependencies are difficult to throw off. But bid them all to find another home! This will make our New Year bright and good!

Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Ring in the valiant man and free.
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land;
Ring in the Christ that is to be.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
