The Real "Good News" of Christianity...

Don't Get Lost by Today's Scribes and Pharisees....

Probably the most famous soliloquy in Christianity has come to be called the Sermon on the Mount, wherein the Christ speaks to his disciples and those that would follow Him, proclaiming first the Beatitudes:

KJV Matthew 5:1  'And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:  2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.      7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.    8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.    9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

As first revealed within the Winds of Forgiveness, conveyed within this sublime message is a reality that Jesus continuously and freely imparted to all of his listeners.  Yet few really understood the direction given, or indeed, believed in the simplicity of what the Lord was really saying.  Even the wise Nicodemus had a hard time in understanding what the Good News was all about.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.  13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled...."

The message continues on for several chapters in Matthew, underscoring the merits of following His Word and the realities that will come with it. This message is often the most quoted of all the Gospel lessons, yet I believe that it is the one most often misunderstood and deflated of all the Truths that could possibly bring us to His Joy.

The reason:  Most religious people take all of this as a list of "to do's" and "don't dos," which at a very basic level is perhaps appropriate, but then it misses the whole underlying spectrum of what the Master is truly telling us, and calling us to do, if we would only listen.

To be sure, although the truth of things generally stands before us ready for our embrace, it's often quite a time before we really "get it," and recognize the realities that truly exist.  No place more evident of this is found in science, where we struggle to understand His Universe..., just as we struggle to understand His Word.  The mystery of things are often different than they first appear to us;  bigger, more connected, more beautiful and sublime.    This reasonable follows, since:

KJV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 The same was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Indeed, even the "Atonement" itself was prepared from the foundation of the earth, i.e., even the means by which we may again become connected and remain connected with Heaven as prepared by His Hand and later made sure by His Sacrifice on earth, was planned for and Designed into the Creation from the first moment it came into being.

Herein we see revealed that the Word was the foundation and power behind the Creation, that everything was made by His Hand, that His Purpose and Life pervades the entire Creation, insinuating it with His Design, even His Pattern and Template..., so that what is on earth may "mirror" in some hidden way that which is in Heaven.  Although this outwardly appears paradoxical, the Infiniteness of God is always imparted in some fashion to what He creates, no matter how limited; viz a viz: the Infinite can and does exist, in part, within the finite.  In other words, like an artist, the Lord leaves His imprint on all that He touches; the matters of His intent and meaning become intercalated and infused within the medium itself.  And it takes us a while to approach and meditate upon these realities before we can develop an understanding about them.

Thus it is said, that everything in this physical world testifies of Him, resonates with His Divine Purpose, and is similar in some ways to His Will, expressing the beauty and organization of His Intent.  Moreover, such infusion cannot be parsed.

It's no wonder that we do not necessarily behold the exact Pattern of His Nature on the surface of things of everything that we can behold here.  This is true both for the things of science and the things of the Spirit.  One must look even deeper, and less myopically, to get a glimpse of those things that are of His Hand.

Such is the case with the Sermon on the Mount.  On the surface, it appears understandable at first blush, and so it is to some degree.  But the deeper meaning is found within the context of the entire creation, and how His Design and Pattern, His Purpose and Power is infused within everything that He Created.  Indeed in everything that He said, these realities are never separated from one another.  His perspective always entails the Eternal.

Yet, despite the complexities and "bigness" of the Eternal, He made it simple to understand His words, if we would only listen with our hearts and with faithful enquiring minds.  In fact, He always supplied the same key for our understanding that would affectively make His meaning clear and put us on the right track.

To cut to the chase, the simple but sacred key in truly understanding all that He said on this occasion can be found wherein Jesus first draws (and what I call is) the proverbial "line in the sand," wherein He proclaims that we must first become "as a little child that believes in Him," otherwise we will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven, the significance of which cannot be overstated.

Indeed, even our entry upon the correct path of the Gospel has become prevented in many institutions that call on His Name, obfuscated by unscrupulous others who have surreptitiously hijacked and foolishly abandoned the clear steps he has so lovingly provided us---- discouraging us from discovering that the requisite connection between ourselves and Heaven and His Spirit is to once again "become as a little child believing in Him."

Unfortunately, I believe that the gist of what most of us have been formally taught about the Gospel from our nation's pulpits, Seminary and Sunday School curriculum and other Bible study courses, may only satisfy an introductory purpose, generally remaining as only a superficial teaching...., which when allowed to become piously entrenched, has long undermined and discouraged the deeper aspects of the Lord's message from ever being understood.  This is story of the "part" trying unsuccessfully to become the "whole."

Just as Jesus had to contend with the rigidity of the Scribes and Pharisees of His time, so did He warn us that we would face the same eventual outcome of "institutionalizing" the teaching of His message in our own.  In other words, things would get so watered-down and diluted that the points of His Message would subsequently become so parsed by the academics amongst us that the heart of entirety of the Good News would become obscured.  And so it has....

KJV Mark 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

KJV Luke 12:1  ....he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.  (see also Matthew 23:1-36).

KJV Mark 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:  22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.  23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

As I have previously stated on the cover of the Winds of Forgiveness:

"Indeed, becoming as a little child who believes in Him has often been mistakenly, if not shamefully, trivialized by today’s Christian Church, even though it is the delineating and exclusionary line drawn in the sand by the Lord Himself, teaching us that this is the only way into His Kingdom. Nevertheless, becoming as a little child, or more particularly becoming again the children we used to be, is the missing, critically-specific first step that must be taken by us in order to be “born again,” come unto the Father by Christ, and be forgiven of our sins. These are indivisible events.

Alarmingly, most calling themselves Christians have never regarded nor respected this imperative from the Lord, even though amply verified by the Holy Scriptures themselves and further attested to within this book. To be sure, without correctly understanding this admonition and faithfully following its directive, we are like vessels without a rudder, blown about by any false prevailing doctrine or deceptive nuance.

Page 4

For through the children that we used to be, rests the memory and quintessential connections with Heaven, encompassing who He created us to be, the seeds of His Character ready to burst forth within us if we would only humble ourselves and find the manner and direction that was once our "first nature."  Within this secret place within us rests the Seed-Pattern of His Name, His Emblems and powers that, when activated in His special manner, restore to us the portions of His Intelligence, His Understanding, His Perception, His Creativity, His Truth, given to us; making us again His Children.

Without taking this instruction seriously, our very Forgiveness and Heaven’s Healing Promises will forever remain beyond our grasp, our very salvation hanging in the balance, despite how we may comfort ourselves otherwise. This simple truth resonates within His Word, and is further detailed within “The Winds of Forgiveness,” teaching us how and why becoming as a little child who believes in Him allows us to give and receive the fullness of Forgiveness as promised by Heaven." From the inside cover of The Winds of Forgiveness.

Most simply and clearly, the finding of who He created us to be, the restorations of the children that He made us to be, is that which restores the Image of His Dignity within us again.  This is what the Gospel is all about----  becoming again like a little child, so as to take the first steps in recovering the ways and means supplied to us to return to Heaven and the bliss of Eternal Joy.  From our very foundation within us, this first step has always been memorialized by Him, made part of the children we used to be, and the children specifically made in His Image.

To these we must return and travel the bittersweet road of re-acquaintanceship with their character and demeanor, seeing again for the first time that they still hold within their hearts the purity of Heaven.  Though men may try divers ways, His Message and Will can never unfold to us within this life without taking this first step of restoration and recovery of the children we used to be seriously.  This is the manner and Way of His Design, determining that such a method is the most compassionate and loving, the most fair and just.  Who are we to change it?

Indeed, if we have ignored, scoffed or ridiculed the very means He has provided for us, how can we expect a different outcome, since we are not following His Commandments but choose to take His Word indifferently?  Becoming as a child that believes in Him is thus our most meaningful choice.  Choosing otherwise is to summarily segregate ourselves from the Happiness of Heaven.

We will never find true happiness or fulfillment by not listening to these, His most Emphatic Directions.  Indeed, a man/woman cannot be a "man"/"woman" without Him.  A man/woman cannot have dignity without Him.  A man/woman cannot be strong and gentle, nor ever be truly whole without Him.  He is the pattern of all that is righteous, pure and Good.  His Dignity upon us is that what gives us hope in ourselves.  It His Dignity that erases our shame, His Grace that forgives and cleanses our sins, His Innocence and Eternal Sacrifice that frees us from our guilt.  Without Him, we have nothing, are nothing, and remain nothing.

For through the children that we used to be, rests the experiential memories and quintessential connections with Heaven, encompassing who He created us to be, the seeds of His Character ready to burst forth within us if we would only humble ourselves and find the manner and direction that was once our "first and truest nature."  Within this secret place within us rests the Seed-Pattern of His Name, His Emblems, His Powers and Authorities that, when activated in His special manner, restore to us His given portions of Intelligence, Understanding, Perception, Creativity, and Truth; making us again His Children.  Thus, the path He has so clearly provided us inevitably makes it simple, not difficult, to follow Him.

These gifts of the Spirit cannot be awakened in any other manner.  It all first depends upon us following His Commandment to again become like a little child, and then walk within His continuing purview.  But becoming again as a little child that believes in Him is the quintessential "domino" that first must be set into motion before His Will can thereinafter unfold within us.

Page 5

Even today, if you ask a Christian what it means to become again like a little child in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, you no doubt will hear a litany of definitions that all fall short of the real meaning ---- a diatribe of behaviors that are accounted childlike, a description of manner without the understanding of the root reason why such is so needed.

But unfortunately, most people diminish the council of becoming again like a little child, thinking that it was meant solely as a poetic nuance, but nothing that should be taken so literally or seriously.

Namely, without restoring us with those children we used to be, without our turning our fathers to the children and the children to the fathers within us, the connections with Heaven will never become reinstated within us.

It is on condition of our becoming as a child again ---- in restoring the children we used to be to their rightful place within us ---- in all humility and in repentance, and in acceptance of the Goodness of Heaven being greater than we are ---- that we are then made able to embrace His Seed-Pattern within us.  And, upon its gradual awakening within us, it begins to seamlessly fuse with our own consciousness and spirit..., and thereinafter, we enter obediently and thankfully into the Way of the Lord.

These are the Lord's instructions to us.  This is the line drawn in the sand.  And, this is the simple but quintessential key in understanding everything else about Him, as well as the critical requisite in understanding the Sermon on the Mount.

To be sure, the eventuality of becoming as a little child results in His descriptions of the poor in spirit, the meek, the pure in heart, etc.  These are those who have embraced the countenance of child.  Only by becoming again as a little child, and more specifically and personally, becoming again the children we used to be, can these attributes become endowed from within us.

These are not behaviors that He asks us to mimic or parrot, donning them like some costume in a dramatic play.  These are attributes of character that spring forth legitimately and naturally from the children we used to be in His Image, those that were originally made in His Image.  These He wants us to become again....  This is the only way we are to become "blessed."

After we embrace His Way of becoming again as a little child that believes in Him, we get plugged into the program so to speak, wherein the laws of Heaven can once again begin to take precedence within us, His Name awakens and His blessings unfold upon us, even the treasures of Heaven.

Without such a transformation, attempting to mirror these behaviors perfectly is impossible.  No matter how much we practice, we can never fulfill His Measure of exactness.  It's kind of like trying to go swimming without getting wet.  Only by becoming as a little child do we awaken His Seed-Pattern within us to begin the glorious conversion.  Moreover, as He then concludes within that portion of the Sermon, this is the only legitimate way in which we can fulfill His Command to:

KJV Matthew 5:48   Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Page 6

By His Admonishment, becoming as a little child is the only means to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  There is no other means.  This is the bridge that must be crossed to get to the other side!  This is not an arbitrary direction or some whimsical mandate.  And there is good reason why this must be so.  Yet we wouldn't think so listening to what's being offered from the pulpits of the nation.

Today, too many of our churches rarely seek to impart anything more than a superficial understanding about these things, and instead teach only a menu of behaviors, quick fix recipes and liberal-based, pop-psychology-prescriptions to discipline our character..., thinking that this is all that is needed or required for us to be "born again," when in fact being "born again" can only occur as the result of first becoming again like a little child.

Indeed, many of our religious institutions fall dramatically short of the Lord's Intentions of Design. In their rhetoric, they promise that "we'll get you across the deep ravine without needing to cross the bridge to get you to other side".  But this is ridiculous.

Indeed, the complaint of many (including myself) is that today our churches are strangely morphing into the institutions overseen by the Scribes and Pharisees of old, having no compunction to teach us how to restore His Dignity within us, but rather charged instead with the need to make us all "behave" according to the stamp of the emblems of a particular denomination...., so as to behave like automatons or robots..., which "act" but do not understand their actions apart from the program.

Point aside:  How some find pleasure in this mindless rigidity has always stumped me.  But then too, some find a strange sense of security in wearing a straight-jacket, but these are generally hospitalized in an asylum.

Listening to the nation's religious dialog, one hears predominately about a "behavior driven message," that is, the "behavior" that's needed to be a "good Christian," rather than the need to rediscover the Lord's demeanor, finding the Holy Roots of the Father within us all through the very means that He has established from the foundation of the world.

The former is dry, over-simplified and rote-driven, wrongly changing the fair proportions of the Gospel into a twisted diatribe, denying the Devine Instruction so as to satisfy outward compliance alone.  Such results in the suspension of free agency and often turns its followers into nothing more than lifeless, hapless machines..., and sure to be a surprise, those who will not receive His gift of Eternal Life.

Whereas the latter method is more freeing, it is much less popular and immediately less attractive to the masses, to be sure..., because it necessarily includes the more responsible and complicated journey of Spiritual Self-discovery, involving a road of sorrow and repentance under the guided auspices of His Spirit..., the means of finding our entire characters reformed after the template of the Seed-pattern of the Lord.

Conditioning one to behave correctly has some merit initially no doubt, but the real "end-game" here is to reformulate our characters so that we desire to do good more than anything else that we may be tempted to do otherwise.  And this can't be done by ourselves by simply modifying our conduct.  This can only occur when there is a true change of heart, something that only can be done through the auspices of His Name resonating within us, from the foundation of who were were created to be.  This is the long term solution we should all be searching for within ourselves, and should be that which is shouted from the rooftops of our nation's religious institutions.

To be sure, although having good manners is to be recommended, it's far more valuable to be first respectively sensitive to others in our company such that good manners then becomes a logical consequence.

In parallel, following His Commandments the best we can is to be applauded of course, but if such obedience is based in an unloving and spiritually cold countenance, it often leads to a rigid and inflexible understanding like that of the Scribes and Pharisees.  We must remember that all the prideful obedience in the world did not keep the Scribes and Pharisees from crucifying the Christ.  Despite their obsessional adherence to the Law, they still could not recognize the Son of God right in front of them.....  So what good was their notion of abeyance and "correct" behavior?   Lesson:  To behave oneself is of course good, but it can become internally corrosive if behavior is the only thing that is changed.

As said, it should be obvious to all that our "good behavior" or "good works" is not the "end-game" here.  Although good behavior from their children is always yearned for by parents, most recognize that it takes more than strict conduct (or magic) to make a man or woman whole.  There's more to growing up than being able to conduct oneself appropriately.  And the Gospel proclaims this from the very start.  Indeed, if the Lord just wanted good behavior, without intention factored into the equation, he certainly wouldn't have given us free choice.

Besides, the blind following of the letter of the law (the lesser part) never satisfies the demands made by the Spirit of the Law (the greater part).  Similarly, the adherence to behavior alone does not guarantee the changing of ones heart.  Although it may help us in the short run, this alone cannot reconstruct nor restore His Dignity within us.  We cannot believe that "our works" will ever be that powerful and omniscient.  Our perfection only comes through the conditions that He has previously established, even from the Atonement prepared from the foundation of the earth.

Thus the Lord leads us to His Still Waters (KJV Psalm 23:1)and to His Revelations, by first announcing that we must again become as a little child, learning to see, feel, understand from this perspective again..., from His Perspective again.  This is the quintessential bridge that must be crossed by us personally..., and this crossing will not be done for us.....

Through this sacred Gate we must proceed, because it is through the countenance of such a spiritual addition to ourselves that we are then gifted by and with His Spirit.  And only thereafter, are we more certain that His Intentions may become exacted here, His Will being "done in earth, as it is in Heaven" ( KJV Matthew 6:9-13.... The Lord's Prayer).

And while remembering the following:

KJV Matthew 13:35  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

NJB Psalm 78:2 I will speak to you in poetry, unfold the mysteries of the past.

....We may, thus, confidently, humbly, and thankfully add, "Blessed are those..... who becoming as a little child again, find the Lord's Dignity anew, to the renewing of their souls."
